The OLC Summer School Programme (SSP) is a preparatory English course for Secondary school students who wish to improve their English skills. It is a General English course of 2-4 weeks duration. The core components in the programme include Researching and Note-Taking Skills, Writing Skills as well as Presentation Skills. Students will gain the skills they need to achieve their educational goals. The course components are designed to enhance students communication through various group activities.

All SSP Teachers are qualified, certified instructors who have had prior experience teaching English to non-native speakers.

A General English Course:

Core Topics:

Travel: Students will be encouraged to research and plan a guide for visitors to their country. They will plan trips and actively discuss the advantages and disadvantages of travel. They will gain experience of researching, planning and delivering presentations related to guided educational trips taken during the programme. The key focus points of this package are to develop research and critical thinking skills.

Environment: Students will be encouraged to research and follow a guided writing programme which will enhance their academic writing skills. The programme will focus on developing paragraphs to essays. In addition, they will gain experience of researching, planning and delivering presentations related to guided educational trips taken during the programme. The key focus points of this package are to develop research and writing skills.

Programme Details:
• Each course will involve classes from 9.30am – 12.30pm Monday to Friday. Classes will be supplemented by self-access learning in the afternoons from 2pm – 4pm. A tutor will be available as a coordinator in the self-access room.
• Each course will be 2-4 weeks in duration including testing. This means that a student will receive a total of 30-60 classroom hours (complemented by 20-40 guided self-access hours).
• Each level will utilise appropriate materials to practice the 4 language skills and to enhance critical thinking skills.
• Group size is within 16-30 students.
• Study visits will be conducted to Taman Botani and Taman Wetlands Putrajaya.
• An “Amazing Race” activity will be held at Taman Wetlands Putrajaya whereby groups will compete to complete an English learning-focused series of games.

Certificate:

Students will be awarded a certificate upon completion of each level.

Placement Tests:
Students will sit for an initial placement test on arrival at the Oxbridge Language Centre. A brief interview will be conducted before they are placed into groups.
Regular tests will be conducted to assess student improvement, culminating in an end of level test to allow students to ascertain their progress during the course.
